The Tales of the Scrap Bin
In Indian culture, "prosperity hens," also known as "tota" or "bell totas," are decorative hangings believed to bring good luck and prosperity to homes and families when hung in doorways or windows. These were usually made and given as gifts for special milestones or handed down generation after generation. These special hens were made using the tiny leftovers of special fabrics in the Stitchysassanach shop. Custom order customers might recognize some. In a year where egg prices are soaring I felt like we could all use a totem of hope for good luck this year. I omitted the bell at the end and instead used embroidery thread and buttons found in estate sales that have been waiting years to be found as a special recognition to all the stitchers out there. I have also made a single hanging hen, since some of us can't have an entire flock, dang HOAs, to bring luck and prosperity to those who travel.
On to the actual description:
Lightly stuffed fabric Chickens shaped filled with a mixture of polyfil and clean cotton scraps. Strung on thread with buttons and beads for a primitive look.
Strung chickens on garland measure 10 chicks high, 30" long.
Single chicks are about 2.5" tall on a 8" strand, perfect for the review mirror.
